When I was applying to law schools, I decided that I was very interested in the programs that Mercer had to offer. I came and visited the law school and was immediately met with such a warm welcome. Everyone was so kind, and I felt right at home. I almost knew right away that this is where I wanted to go to, law school. I took two gap years in between undergrad and law school, and I was living in metro Atlanta. I was working in Atlanta. Moving to Macon was a big change. I think that that was exactly what I was looking for in law school, I really wanted to slow down and enjoy the experience.
Macon has definitely enhanced my law school experience. Coming from a diverse background, the community of Macon drew me in just wanting to be part of a community that's more inviting and inclusive, and just knowing that you have somewhere that's welcoming. And I didn't have that in Atlanta, so I wanted to find that, and I found it here.
Macon factored into me coming to Mercer because I was in Athens for four years, and I think that Macon offered a little bit more of a relaxed feel, more of a small town vibe, than what I got in Athens. For me, Macon adds to the Mercer law experience by I think, being so close knit, I live two blocks from Mercer law school, and I can run about a mile and a half, and I'm on main campus, I can run about a mile, and I'm in downtown Macon, and it's all situated in the same area.
If I want to go to a Mercer football game, it's just down the road, or if I want to go out to a nice dinner, also just down the road. The Law School's right in the middle of everything. And it's really nice to have those opportunities to go and do whatever you want whenever you want.
It's not a small, small city, but it's easy to traverse around. I enjoy walking around. I enjoy driving around. Everything's close by. Everything that you need is close by. It's always live. There's something always going on.
It seems like a bigger city than it actually is. Mercer is 100% a part of this community. When you say Macon, they automatically associate Mercer, law school, med school, undergrad, with Macon. So I think that's probably my favorite thing.
After graduation, I would consider staying and living in Macon. I think that the school pours into the community and vice versa. So there are a lot of great alums in this area and just people that love Mercer. It's a great place where you could establish yourself and build a career. You're someone who is considering coming to Mercer, but you're not sure about Macon. Come and visit. Come see the downtown, see the undergrad campus, see the proximity of the law school to both of those things, and see everything that it has to offer. You will be charmed, just like the rest of us were.
