Our office works with students from their very first day here on campus. In fact, we actually work with them before they enter campus. We do a program over the summer where we start giving them some vital information about what should they be doing before they come to law school, and then we meet with them during orientation. We're really fortunate that we get to have a part in that.
And then we have a class with them in the fall where we meet with students in their 1l individual small sections. And that's a really great opportunity for us to get to know them. We cover everything from resumes and job searching to cover letters networking, and that sets us up really well to start doing individual counseling so that they're ready to jump into the job application process a little bit later in the fall semester. We continue to work with them all the way through their career as two L's, three L's, and we even provide that same individual counseling service to our alumni network as well.
We have a platform called Fair Board, which allows them to sign up for appointments. It's also where all of the jobs are, so when we meet with them, we can go through all of those opportunities. We've recently started having employers come on campus to do tabling so that students can talk to them about what those opportunities look like before they ever apply for the job. We also do programming which allows employers to come talk to students about the opportunities that they would have. We partner really closely with our externship program, which allows students to gain experience while getting class credit, which gives students really great competitive advantage when they're applying for jobs post grad.
Sometimes that changes throughout their career. In law school, they come in as a first year wanting to do one thing, find out other opportunities, but we'll continue to work with them throughout that process, even as an alum, they'll have access to our office and bear board and able to post jobs if they're as an employer, or even to if their career changing as they go throughout their career, we'll be able to help them with that process as well. We have a resource library that has Handbooks for students, 1l, handbook 2l, 3l, it has templates. It helps us host events for students. They could register and bear board, and we do individual counseling. We also have a Career Closet, so our office helps them with their career opportunities, from counseling to posting jobs, and then all the way through their graduate selves as they want to come back and be the employer who posts a job or speaks on a panel.
Honestly, Career Services has helped me out throughout my development, from 1l year to now, going to the office, scheduling appointments and being able to work with them to help build a resume that I've been able to apply to multiple positions with and making sure that the skills that each and every student has, including myself, has been something that employers are looking for, because we're actually going out for professional places with people who have developed a prestigious career over a multitude of years, having the opportunity to be here at such a prestigious institution and be able to pursue my dream even further is more than anything I could have ever asked for.
One thing that's incredibly important for us here at Mercer Law and Career Services is to understand what our employers are looking for from our students and to make sure that we're helping them be as prepared as possible. And sometimes new careers pop up during their time here at law school, new laws are changing all the time, being a small school with an individual counseling one on one, which matters so much to us, if you have an off the wall job opportunity that you want to do, our office will try and help you be competitive in that because all of our alums deserve to go on have happy, successful, fulfilling careers.
