JD/MBA Program

The Mercer JD/MBA combined program provides an accelerated three-year pathway for law students to earn both degrees simultaneously.

By integrating business coursework after the first year of law school, students gain a significant competitive edge in fields like corporate law, securities, and in-house counsel. The program is designed for maximum efficiency, allowing students to leverage undergraduate business foundations while completing two rigorous credentials in a fraction of the traditional time. Flexibility and networking are at the core of the experience, offering students the choice between fully online classes or evening sessions at the Macon campus.

The JD MBA combined program is designed to have law school students integrate business classes that will allow them to complete the MBA credential alongside the JD credential within a three year time frame. It does allow students to begin taking business classes after they've completed their 1l years, and once they get to the finish line, they will graduate with both degrees under the combined program designation. Being able to pack two hugely, weighty degrees into a very expedited timeline is something that you're probably your average student who is in the law school right now and in a position to start the combined program. They're probably they're probably never going to be in a position to actually do both of those degrees as quickly and as efficiently as this program allows them to. So the combined program is obviously going to be very relevant for anyone who is entertaining in house, counsel, corporate law, any of those career trajectories, this is going to map right onto their goals. If you think that there's a realistic chance you are going to want to get an MBA at some point in the future, you're never going to be in a position to have that done more efficiently than right now, having the opportunity to complete them both and that expedited timeline here, I think, is just a hugely valuable opportunity.

Initially, I was really intrigued by the MBA program because I have an undergrad background in business and finance specifically. So I felt like the MBA program was a great way to utilize some of the undergraduate business skills I gained. It just gave me an opportunity to explore some of the concepts that I was already familiar with. I initially wanted to come to law school because I wanted to do some sort of corporate securities in house role, which is typically more associated with the business aspect of having a JD, the MBA was something that I wanted to be able to combine with my JD as a way to market myself better for employers.

First and foremost, they will have the option of doing the MBA classes either in person At the Macon campus under the evening MBA format, right? So that's night classes once or twice a week. Or they can do the fully online. Then it's built to be as flexible as possible. So as soon as the students kind of communicate from their side, here's how it's going. Here's how I see ideally, the MBA classes fitting into my schedule. There's almost always a version of that that we can present to them. Business School specifically, has any number of functions throughout the course of the year that put you right in front of alumni local leadership with alumni connections to Mercer, high level corporate leadership from organizations like Atlanta Braves, Chick fil A, for instance, come speak to the business school. It's multifaceted in terms of what you get out of it as well.

But the alumni connection piece is huge for that both the professors in the business school and law school have been super encouraging with networking, finding professional opportunities for development, finding pathways, encouraging people to do things that they might not have known otherwise, that are opportunities. The MBA gives you access to the Business School's Career Services and professional development, one of my MBA professors was able to connect me with an M and A attorney that she was good friends with, and I was able to kind of pick her brain about how she used to MBA, and how she was able to combine those degrees and turn it into a successful career, the opportunity to take Your learning into your own hands and be given experiences that you wouldn't know you're otherwise interested in is such a blessing, and everyone that goes here is definitely enriched by that. Mercer Law has been the perfect place to develop myself further to be the best lawyer I can be.
