Collaborative Community

When it comes to law school, bigger isn’t better; smaller is. At Mercer Law School, intentionally keep enrollment small – approximately 400 total students – to provide direct access to everything we offer: professors, alumni connections, leadership roles, student organizations, personalized career guidance and more. This direct access fosters a thoughtful, driven community where you will learn the practice of law.

In law school can often be a competitive environment. What we do at the law school is make sure that we foster a collaborative and cooperative environment. Our deliberately small school environment means that you really are going to see these people for three years, and it's important to build those relationships. In addition to having their classmates and colleagues, they also have committed staff and dedicated faculty who are interested in knowing what an individual student wants to accomplish during their time here.

What makes Mercer law school so unique is the people and kind of feeling like like, this is your home base. You have the familiarity with your professors, not the large classes where the professor doesn't know your name. The professor knows your name, knows what you like and knows what makes you work better, knows the conditions that you need to be under.

So the Mercer Professor experience has really taught me that they do genuinely care about you, understanding the material, but also growing as a lawyer. They're a part of the same profession. They want to mentor you, and they want to encourage your passions, whatever that may be. So I really got to know my peers, my professors, and be able to get to know me as a person versus a law student, and being able to have a professor who gets to know you beyond the classroom is definitely rewarding.

There's the ability for competition to coexist alongside collegiality, in the sense that very much a tight knit community. So I think for me, that was very, very beneficial.

In that regard, from law school admission to bar admission, no Mercer law student is a number, so you will find out that your faculty will know your name, and they will be able to talk with you about your individual goals here that brings a great responsibility for the students, because they're going to be active participants in every single law school class that they're in. That allows students to really find mentors in this building and out of this building, very often, who we become is influenced by those people who are around us, and we want to make sure that there is a supportive environment for all the law students .
